If your pet is wary of vacuums or grooming in general, follow these instructions for a better experience.
Grooming a pet’s coat for the first time can be a stressful experience for both the pet and owner, but with the right approach, it doesn't have to be. By starting early and making grooming part of your pet's training, you can help your pet feel comfortable and relaxed during the process.
Step 1: Get Your Pet Used to Being Touched
Before introducing your pet to the furMe grooming vacuum and attachments, start by getting them used to being touched and handled. This can be done by massaging their legs, paws, and individual toes for a few minutes each day. Afterwards, create a positive association with this experience by rewarding your pet with their favorite treat and lots of positive verbal reinforcement.
Step 2: Introduce Your Pet to the furMe Vacuum
Once your pet is comfortable with being touched, help them grow gradually accustomed the furMe vacuum and attachments. Let them sniff the kit while it is turned off, then brush them with one of the brush attachments while the machine is still off so they are used to the feeling.
Step 3: Gradually Increase Exposure
Next, let your pet listen to the sound the vacuum makes when it is turned on at the lowest setting. Ideally, have them sit or lay on their side while the vacuum is nearby and a brush attachment is in your hand. Gradually work up to a few gentle strokes on your pet's coat. Let your pet become familiar with each attachment.
Step 4: Start Using the furMe
When you and your pet are ready, start using the furMe on the lowest power setting, gradually increasing the power if necessary.
Step 5: Reinforce the Good Behavior
Throughout the acclimation process, continue to praise your pet and reward good behavior with a treat. This process may take a couple of days or weeks, but with love and patience, you and your pet will be able to relax and even enjoy grooming time together.
